Who the hell is this guy?
A lawyer’s lawyer
My name is Alan Holcomb and I’m a trial lawyer at the law firm of Turnbull, Holcomb & LeMoine, PC, located in Atlanta, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama. I’ve handled some of the most complex litigation in the country, having handled cases in 20+ states, and trying cases in jurisdictions such as California, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, and Arizona.
I was born in a smallish town called Meridian, Mississippi. Meridian is off of I – 20, the highway that connects New Orleans to Atlanta. I lived in Meridian until I was four years old or so, lived in Bradenton, Florida a short while, and then have lived mostly in the metro Atlanta area since then (with a short stint in Miami, Florida).
I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2007, and from the Emory University School of Law in 2010. Following graduation, I joined a preeminent insurance defense firm, Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial, LLC.
WWHGD is a “bet the company“ trial firm that practices across the country. It specializes in the “baddest“ cases for corporate defendants and insurance. I spent 10 years at the firm, attaining status as equity partner. I was “thrown into the fire“ at the firm, and learned a great deal about myself through the trials and tribulations of high-stakes litigation. Much of what I will be writing about in this newsletter I learned while a defense lawyer. Much more to come on this.
In 2019, I made the most emotional and difficult decision I’ve ever made in my life, deciding to leave my cushy corporate defense position and join my law partner, Brett Turnbull. Thereafter, we formed Turnbull, Holcomb & Lemoine. For the past three years I have worked exclusively as a plaintiff‘s lawyer, representing the seriously injured in product liability, negligent security, and medical malpractice cases all across the country.
So why start this Substack? I’m living my dream. I love the law and I love being a lawyer. I’ve had a pretty wild ride as a trial lawyer, and I’ve learned a lot about the law, this country, human nature, and myself.
This newsletter is for those litigators and trial lawyers who have sacrificed much of themselves and of their loved ones to pursue justice for the powerless. The aim of this newsletter is to provide practical information regarding the practice of law, to discuss experiences I’ve encountered over the past 12 years, and to sometimes randomly write about rap, classic country music, sports, books, and politics.
I hope I can provide some value for the reader, so that they do not have to make the same mistakes I did.
